From Left to Right: Judge Kathleen Milford, Charlene Dunn,
Bandit, Tracklayer Karen Cloud, and Judge Lynda McKee
Bandit passed in Houston on January 8th, which makes her officially...
Dunn's Bandit CD, RE, TD, WTXX (AKC doesn't recognize this, but it is a top
level water rescue title).
Proud to say she was the only dog to pass, but is great at giving her owner heart failure....
She had to walk the entire length of her track to the start (it finished by the cars), so as we
approach we went into routine mode, switch to harness, give water, walk calmly (HA) into field and
ask her to find it. Start article is tied to flag, so in owner's haste to get
it off, she didn't get
enough line, causing her to stop and start circling. Each pass causes faster
zoomies to
ensue (I think she circled that start flag 30 times!)... At this point just praying let us start... We go
a bit farther down the line, more zoomie
s,
until we finally evened out... First leg was 100 yards (seems short). We took
the first turn good and went right
along to the 2nd turn where we noticed the judges moving so we stopped to look, ears perked, then
got back to work at the corner (Owner at this time thinks leg is way too short and is waiting for
whistle) and proceeded to wrap the line under us. Second leg 85
yards. We tracked an entire leg with the line wrapped up.
Being the good handler
and out of nerves for nothing else, let the line out to try to untangle.
At
this point we are near water and birds so we chased some birds and then came back to get line out
from under us. We then took the turn we were at and tracked onto the glove.
Perfect indication too...
Total yards 485, total turns 3, new gray hairs... Don't ask...
