On March 4, 2006 DFW Tracking Club held its first seminar. The “Fine Tuning for a Tracking Dog Test (TD)” seminar was a huge success. Seminar participants spent the day learning the tracking secrets from AKC Judge Deb Duncan and watching as she helped each team learn to better communicate in the tracking field.
The seminar covered the following topics:
| Assess and “problem solve” tracking issues with your “team”. | |
| Fine tune your “teamwork”. | |
| Refine your handling skills and improve track communications with your dog. | |
| Learn to TRUST your dog and yourself. | |
| Learn to READ the nuances of your dog’s tracking style and behaviors. | |
| Learn “how” you positively or negatively impact your dog’s performance. | |
| Understand “what, how, and why” your dog reacts to scent as affected by geography, topography, weather, ground conditions, etc. | |
| Learn from watching the other teams and Deb’s input to each team. | |
| Increase your dog’s motivation and commitment to their tracking job. |
The seminar was geared towards handlers who were entered in the spring tests. The participants had field work and oral presentation with personalized attention given to each handler/dog team and their issues and concerns. Just like “The Right Stuff” these teams showed that they are ready for victory! So bring on the tests!
